Red Sox fans held their breath Sunday during the eighth inning of Boston’s 9-5 win over the defending World Series champion Washington Nationals. During an at bat, designated hitter J.D. Martinez took a 95 mile per hour fastball from Nationals pitcher Daniel Hudson off his left hand. The slugger was taken out of the game, despite his request to play through it, and was replaced by pinch-runner Tzu-Wei Lin so Martinez could be assessed by the Red Sox training staff.
