Chaim Bloom: Red Sox don't have 'firm mandate' to stay under $210 million CBT cap

In signing five free agents (Hernandez, Richards, Martin Perez, Matt Andriese and Hunter Renfroe) and acquiring Ottavino, the Red Sox have added roughly $35 million in payroll to their roster since the end of the season. Unless there’s a trade, it’s hard to imagine the club filling any remaining needs (another starter, more bullpen help, a left-handed complement at first base and maybe an outfielder) with a significant move and not going over the $210 million mark.
