The 24-year-old had been a starter throughout his minor-league career before Tommy John surgery in 2019, but he figures to fill a middle-innings-type role with the Red Sox at the outset. His mid-90s velocity has been encouraging this spring, and it’s not out of the question to expect him to work his way into higher-leverage roles as the season progresses.
