Red Sox's 40-man makeover includes 12 pitchers gone; Mike Shawaryn, who had a forgettable London trip, remains

Red Sox right-handed pitcher Mike Shawaryn had a notable offseason — and not just because he got engaged Dec. 15 to his girlfriend, Emily Brauckmuller, a former gymnast at the University of Maryland. Shawaryn, who pitched Maryland, also made it through an offseason of major Red Sox roster turnover. Twelve of the 25 pitchers who finished the 2019 season on Boston’s 40-man roster (or 60-day IL) no longer remain on it.
