Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom and general manager Brian O'Halloran confirmed on March 19 that Sale would require surgery after unsuccessful attempts to rehabilitate his ailing elbow. "Chris will return to Florida soon to begin his rehab," Bloom said on Monday night. "It's a long process, but we know how driven he is to do this right.
