Major League Baseball’s Opening Day on Thursday was nothing new for the players from Alabama high schools and colleges who moved from a spring-training to a big-league roster to start the 2021 season – except for Boston Red Sox pitcher Garrett Whitlock. But the UAB alumnus didn’t get to experience the pageantry of Opening Day on Thursday because rain postponed the Red Sox’s game against the Baltimore Orioles. The teams will try again on Friday afternoon at Fenway Park to start the 2021 season.
