Red Sox Journal: Cordero struggles in first game

For the second time in as many seasons, the Red Sox traded for an outfielder who didn't make his playing debut on Opening Day. Last year it was Alex Verdugo, who emerged as arguably the club's best hitter in a shortened 2020 campaign. Cordero started in left field and batted eighth on Saturday afternoon against the Orioles. Boston was attempting to bounce back from a 3-0 shutout loss in the 2021 opener, its first time being blanked in its first game since 1976.
