Two-time All-Star catcher Jonathan Lucroy began the 2020 season on Boston’s active roster, but the Red Sox designated him for assignment just four days later because of minimal playing time as the third catcher. Boston instead went with two catchers and added an extra pitcher to the active roster. Lucroy cleared waivers and the Red Sox outrighted him to their alternate training site, Pawtucket’s McCoy Stadium, where several prospect pitchers have the opportunity to pick the veteran’s brain.
