The Red Sox were out of this postseason chase before it really started, closing 24-36 and finishing last in the AL East for the fourth time since 2012. Boston set a franchise worst in earned run average, and manager Ron Roenicke was limited to one season in the job after serving as bench coach under Cora in 2018 and 2019. The Red Sox announced prior to their season finale with Atlanta they would not pick up Roenicke’s 2021 club option.
