Red Sox considered Jarren Duran for open outfield spot but instead will use J.D. Martinez and stopgap options

The Red Sox considered promoting top outfield prospect Jarren Duran after trading Kevin Pillar to the Rockies but ultimately decided Duran needed more development, manager Ron Roenicke said Tuesday. Duran, who is ranked by Baseball America ranks as the No. prospect in Boston’s system, has impressed team officials at the club’s alternate site in Pawtucket this summer.
